Start With the Supplier on Your Electricity Bill
Your state identifies the policy context; your electricity supplier holds the account and applies the bill calculation. Keep the consumer number, tariff category, reading dates and application reference together. A private submeter statement or a calculator estimate is not the same as a utility account.
If relief is missing, identify whether the issue is eligibility, registration, reading, billing or an earlier balance. The state guides explain those distinctions without promising approval or a credit deadline.
Bill Subsidy, Solar Assistance and Arrears Are Different
- Recurring domestic relief: support applied to eligible billed electricity under the local scheme.
- Rooftop-solar capital assistance: a separate contribution towards an approved residential installation.
- Historical arrears relief: debt treatment limited to the decision’s stated categories and periods.
- Agricultural or commercial support: separate consumer categories whose rules should not be imported into a domestic account.
PM Surya Ghar is a national rooftop-solar programme. Its standard central assistance is described as ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW and up to ₹78,000 for 3 kW or more. Special-region provisions and current eligibility can differ; verify the applicable tier rather than copying a standard example into every state.
Start with the official national solar portal and the actual DISCOM. Registration, feasibility, approved installation, inspection, commissioning and the assistance claim are separate stages. State top-ups require their own current instructions. No payment or completion period is guaranteed here.

Estimate Usage Before Comparing a Benefit Limit
Use the monthly household electricity consumption calculator to review appliance use. Compare the same period with your utility reading. For a rupee estimate, use the electricity bill calculator with the applicable tariff inputs. Neither tool verifies account eligibility.
Planning a new home involves a separate installation budget. The house wiring cost calculator estimates that work from your inputs; a household bill benefit does not automatically reimburse wiring or cable costs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are electricity subsidies automatic or do I have to apply?
There is no single rule across India. Some benefits are implemented through an eligible electricity account, while others require an application, opt-in, linked household record or declaration. Read the guide for your state and confirm the current process with the supplier on your bill. Do not submit a new application simply because another state requires one.
Does a free-unit headline mean every part of my bill is zero?
Only the applicable scheme and account calculation can establish that. Energy charges, fixed components, earlier dues and adjustments may receive different treatment. Some schemes genuinely provide zero bills within stated conditions; others offer a discount or capped assistance. Check the state guide and ask the provider to explain each remaining component rather than assuming all charges are covered.
Does a subsidy in one state continue when I move to another?
Do not assume that it does. The destination state has its own eligibility, application and electricity-account requirements. Keep the old and new consumer numbers separate, confirm any correction needed on the earlier record and check the new supplier’s current process. A shared scheme name does not make two states’ rules or portals interchangeable.
Can PowerCutStatus.in approve or track my benefit application?
No. PowerCutStatus.in explains public information and links to official sources. It does not authenticate identity, submit benefit applications or access private supplier accounts. Use the official provider or scheme service for an application decision or status enquiry. Keep the acknowledgement and electricity bill ready so the responsible service can identify the request and relevant period.
Is rooftop-solar assistance the same as an electricity bill subsidy?
No. A recurring bill subsidy reduces eligible billed electricity charges. Rooftop-solar capital assistance contributes towards an approved installation through a separate process. Historical arrears waivers and agricultural or commercial support are also distinct. Eligibility for one does not establish approval for another, and an advertised installation grant should not be treated as money already credited.
How should I use a calculator before checking a subsidy?
Use realistic appliance ratings and operating hours to estimate energy, then compare the same period with the actual utility reading. A calculator can help explain likely consumption but cannot confirm beneficiary status, identity records or an official bill adjustment. Wiring-cost and cable-size tools answer installation questions; they do not decide whether a household qualifies for financial support.
How These Guides Were Reviewed
Sources were checked on 20 October 2026. Each guide identifies official government, regulator or utility material, separates historical rules from current references and lists the details still needing provider confirmation. Some official documents or services could not be fully retrieved. Those gaps are disclosed rather than filled with another state’s rules.
Scheme conditions can change. Confirm the latest order and account requirements with the official state DISCOM before applying or making a financial commitment. PowerCutStatus.in is independent and does not approve applications or guarantee benefits.
