How PowerCutStatus.in gets and labels outage data

Power outage information comes from records with different meanings. This methodology explains how PowerCutStatus.in separates official planned-shutdown notices, provider source health, community observations and unknown status.

Instructions reviewed . Review date is separate from live outage or account status.

Official utility sources

Provider websites and public shutdown records are treated as source evidence for the scope they actually publish. A planned maintenance notice is not treated as proof of a live fault, and a complaint dashboard is not converted into a count of separate outages.

Community observations

Community reports are labelled as observations. They can help identify a possible local problem, but they are not presented as official utility confirmation. Conflicting or insufficient reports remain uncertain rather than being forced into a green or red status.

Locality and feeder matching

Postal areas, neighbourhoods, utility divisions and feeders do not always share the same boundaries. Locality mappings are kept conservative and should be traceable to a provider record, verified postal information or a reviewed mapping. Unverified assumptions are not treated as facts.

Freshness and unknown status

Collection time and source update time can be different. When the underlying source is stale, unavailable or does not cover a location, PowerCutStatus.in should show that limitation. No matching notice is not evidence that electricity is currently available.
